Springs are the hardest-working component in any garage door system. They counterbalance the weight of the door, making it possible for the opener motor, or a person, to lift hundreds of pounds with minimal effort. When a spring breaks, the door typically will not open. Garage Door Enterprises replaces and services garage door springs for residential and commercial properties throughout Hampton Roads and Currituck County, NC. Call (757) 482-9350.
Spring Replacement is Not DIY
Garage door springs are under extreme tension. Attempting to replace or adjust them without proper tools and training can result in serious injury. Our technicians replace springs safely using the correct tools and tension calculations for your specific door weight and size.
Torsion Springs
Torsion springs mount horizontally above the door opening on a steel shaft. Most residential and commercial sectional doors use torsion springs. They provide smooth, balanced operation and last longer than extension springs, typically 10,000 to 20,000 cycles depending on the spring rating.
We always recommend replacing both torsion springs at the same time even if only one has broken. Springs wear at the same rate and replacing only one leaves an aging spring that will likely break within months.
Extension Springs
Extension springs run horizontally above the horizontal track sections on either side of the door. More common on older residential doors. They must be fitted with safety cables threaded through the centre of the spring to contain it if it breaks.
High-Cycle Springs
Standard springs are rated for 10,000 cycles. High-cycle springs are available rated for 25,000, 50,000, or 100,000 cycles. We recommend them for busy households, rental properties, and commercial applications.
